       Diane Poinski Video Biography
While attending college to pursue an accounting degree, I took a black and white photography course to help satisfy the art requirement. Passion for photography developed almost immediately, and my goal of becoming a CPA quickly disappeared. My accounting skills came in handy when I applied for and got a job as a bookkeeper at Lightwork, a photography store in Sacramento. In addition to being surrounded by many talented photographers, I was able to participate in workshops free of charge. A class taught by Ginny Giles in hand-coloring was where I was first introduced to this unique art form. Thank you Ginny!
Before this experience, I prided myself in the fact that I only took and printed straight black and white photographs. However, since that workshop, every image I make is now hand-colored.Once I started hand-coloring, I began to shoot differently. I could visualize the possibilities hand-coloring could add to the scene before me. Hand-coloring seemed to add emotion to my photographs, something that I wasn’t able to communicate with my black and white images. Master black and white photographers have that skill, but it wasn’t anything I possessed. For many years I hand-colored traditional fiber darkroom black and white prints with photo oil paints. After transitioning from film to digital I spent over a year experimenting with different papers, tools and media until I found a way to continue hand-coloring on what are now inkjet prints. In 2008 I began offering workshops to introduce this technique.I am excited to be a part of CAWorkshops.com and look forward to sharing what I have learned with others.I work and teach out of my studio located upstairs in the Art Foundry Building at 1021 R Street in downtown Sacramento.

About Chris

I have been a professional photographer for 31 years. I began my career shooting commercial photography after my training at Laney College in Oakland. During my years in the Navy, I worked as a photographer in Navy Intelligence. Earlier in my career, my wife and I had a photography studio, Creative Images, in Elk Grove California. Our focus was sports, children and families. Later I developed a strong senior high clientele, and was active in the Elk Grove Schools both as a photographer and as a member of the Rotary Club.

Today, I work mostly out of my home, and I mainly focus on family and children’s photography. I enjoy working with a family to bring them the highest quality photographs that reflect the strong bond they have as family members. Using outdoor environments, I work to integrate the families’ hobbies, favorites and activities with the photography of them. In addition to honing my craft by attending workshops and viewing footage of studio photographers in sessions, I too enjoy teaching others about the art and business of photography. Photography is truly a passion of mine that has brought me both income and joy.
