| Jeff Burkholder Video Biography | ||
| I entered the photography world in 1981, in college, and as a stringer for the Associated Press; then pursued the photojournalism career with small regional newspapers and magazines. A photojournalist by training, I spent my early days in high school drawing lines to become an architect/draftsman. A high school biology instructor spurred me to use a camera to document some class assignment, from there I got the ‘bug’ (literally, I was photographing insects for a class assignment). | ||
| It was in college that my direction really was changed. While trying to enroll in a photography class, that was full, I saw the college newspaper (ARC Beaver), when looking at the images in the paper I knew I could do that. So armed with a Canon AT-1, I told the instructor I knew how to shoot and process film when asked. I then promptly went to the local photo store to get books on those topics. From there on my major slowly changed from Architecture to Photojournalism. Transfering to Sacramento City College, I found myself in the heart of a frenzy of great talented photographers and two gifted instructors; Andy Delucia and Dick Flemming. They changed my way of seeing the world.Trying to out-do my college colleagues on the simple assignments: Flash, Speed, Two lights, etc… I would see how far I could take this medium and learn many of the technical aspects during this early stage of what soon began to be a career.Working at the Associated Press, as a stringer and one of the youngest shooters at the AP at that time; from there I went on to newspapers and then freelancing for magazines. My work has appeared in many regional and national magazines: Time, Newsweek, Fortune, Forbes, Success, Comstock’s, Hot Rod, Hot Boat, Sacramento Magazine, Architectural Digest, Triathlon, Triathlete, Runners World, and many others.
I’ve shot about most things under the sun: advertising, fashion/glamour, sports, corporate, architecture. Location or in studio, I love variety and I guess some would say I have ‘Adult ADD’. Which is ok, because it allows be to get bored enough and try new things. Sacramento is my home, and I teach classes and workshops with Sierra College, and other programs. Teaching is fun, I love to get people inspired to what they can do. Which is why I guess I’m inspired to create CAworkshops.com. To help others learn the craft and art of Photography. To let their vision take them to where they want to go or see. I hope CAworkshops helps inspire you as my colleagues, instructors and past have inspired me. If you have questions, topics or ideas for CAworkshops.com please drop me a line. jeff@caworkshops.com I look forward to hearing from you.
